New Lancia Stratos

lancia-stratos-002-400pxThe beautiful new Lancia Stratos recently seen testing around Milan had been delivered to its lucky rich new owner.

Unfortunately it’s a one-off, built by Pininfarina for German industrialist Michael Stoschek, and not a test bed for a future production release. It’s based on a shortened Ferrari F430 Scuderia, which was stripped and upgraded in almost every conceivable way, then clad in a custom designed carbon bodyshell.  Speculation about the official Lancia revival is still rife, but with the 40th anniversary of the original Stratos in 2011 it would seem like the perfect time is just over the horizon.

Though officially this car is a one-off, you can’t escape the fact that there’s been two years of work invested by Pininfarina and extensive involvement from the Fiat Group (owners of Lancia and Ferrari). I wouldn’t be surprised if Lancia takes a lot away from this project for its own car.
